About Horse Tender

I have been creating things as far back as I can remember. My Granny and my mom have always been creative people, I suppose I was born into it. When I was a little girl I used to pick flowers from my Granny's big flower garden, make flower arrangements, and sell them to the neighbors. I guess you could say I've been an entrepreneur from way back!

The story behind "Horse Tender" and the Studio:

When I was a teenager I discovered a tattered old paperback called Woman Chief. I'm not even sure where I found it, but it may very well have been in Granddad's extensive, ever changing paperback book collection. The story was about a girl who was taken captive by the Crow tribe. In the beginning, she was called Slave Girl and made to do hard labor in the camp. Eventually, the man who captured her began to think of her as a daughter and he put her in charge of his horse herd. She was then known as Horse Tender. In the story she goes on to become a respected warrior and even a buffalo hunter in the tribe. The story has long been one of my favorites, and I think it even has a lot of similarities to my life. I won't go into details but, though I have never been a "Slave Girl", I've seen some very dark, very hard times in my life. I've been using the name HorseTender online for the past few years.

For some time now I've struggled with trying to think of an all-encompassing name for my creative projects. For many years now I've made the types of items you'll find on this site: cross necklaces, greeting cards, dreamcatchers, custom horses, etc! Over the years I've sold a few necklaces and dreamcatchers here and there. I've long wanted to turn my "hobby" into more of a business. I threw around several ideas for a name and I finally settled on Horse Tender Studio.
